GALVESTON – The Galveston College Whitecaps scored three times in their last at-bat to win the opener, 5-4, on Saturday, then scored twice in the first inning of the second game on their way to a doubleheader sweep against Blinn College.

In the first game, Blinn scored twice in the top of the first inning on a walk and a home run.

But the Whitecaps answered with a single and a homer by Ally Johnson to score a pair of runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

The Buccaneers went ahead with a run in the second inning and added another in the fourth, setting the stage for the dramatic finish.

Marissa Garza got the rally started with a leadoff single. She was replaced on the base paths after a fielder’s choice by Cally Newsome.

After Savannah Martin worked a walk, she and Newsome moved into scoring position on a groundout by Dannielle Calk.

Both runners scored when the Blinn shortstop threw wildly to first base after Marina Rios put the ball in play.

Rios scored the winning run on an error when Johnson singled to right and the fielder failed to stop the ball.

Brooke Seneshen got the win in relief of starter Laci Belovsky.

Belovsky gave up four runs on nine hits, walked one and struck out four in 32/3 innings. Seneshen struck out eight, walked two and allowed only one hit in her 31/3 innings of work.

In the second game, the Whitecaps scored twice in the first inning, once in the third and once in the fourth on their way to a 4-2 win.

Martin and Garza each homered for the Whitecaps, Belovsky had a double and an RBI, and Johnson went 2-for-3 and scored a run.

Seneshen went the distance on the mound, allowing two solo home runs among her three hits while striking out eight and walking none.
