Seriously? Just when I was really tiring at the overuse of that word, I awakened to the reality that while the clock read 6:38 a.m. — which was already late — my body still believed it was 5:38 a.m.
Our 7:30 a.m. tee time was now 6:30 a.m., and dark. There was no “dawn” per se, but the sky did lighten, only to reveal rain. We did the only thing we could do to salvage the morning: Adjourn to the locker room to engage in several rounds of LCR, the most mindless game ever created.
Returning home, I turned on the talking heads only to discover that a Texan with a voice like the duck in the Aflac commercials was in the mix; so, I chose to finish my second newspaper of the day. Bad news there. Columnist Leon Hale had posted his final piece in a career spanning almost as long as my years. There was only one way to describe the morning: Seriously?
Yesterday, I attended my first pre-tournament hype session for the Shell Houston Open, featuring defending champ D.A. Points. My small-footed friend Patrick requested that I take a “selfie” with D.A. in the background. Seriously?
Thursday, the Ball High School sub-varsity team traveled to Battleground G.C. for the Deer Park Boys Sub-Varsity Spring Classic. The Tors finished 10th among the 22 competing teams, with Jordan Kleinecke posting low total to lead the team, and a 12th-place individual ranking out of 90 players. Konnor Chapman, Brett Rutledge, Ben Ramsell and Pano Koutrouvelis rounded out the squad. Seriously.
They’ll still sign up by 10:30 a.m. and tee it at noon for the Moody Gardens Golf Course Thursday cash game, and the lighting won’t be much different from last week when Bill Pushak won individual gross with a 76. Bobby Sanderson (67), John Termini and Wally Holmes finished 1-2-3 in net play, with Termini also collecting on low net-par 4s. The team of Sanderson, Mike Mims and Rande Revilla prevailed in low net. Chris Caldwell raked in CTP cash. Seriously.
Be safe, on and off the course.
