TEXAS CITY — An early error put Texas City in a hole it could not climb out of in its District 24-4A loss to Pearland Dawson on Tuesday night.
A mishandled grounder to second base with two outs in the first inning kept the Eagles at the plate, and a three-run homer by Sam Boake put Dawson ahead for good en route to a 12-2 victory.
Boake led the Eagles’ offense, going 3-for-3 with the homer and a double. He drove in four runs and scored three times.
In all, Dawson (2-0 district) pounded out 10 hits and scored seven two-out runs.
The Eagles took a commanding 8-1 lead with back-to-back two-run efforts in the fourth and fifth innings then added to their total with four runs in the top of the seventh.
Pinch hitters Carlos Amaya and Collin Hopkins each drove in two runs for Dawson, and Tony Carillo had two hits with a double and two RBIs.
Ryne Cooper doubled and finished with two of Texas City’s six hits.
Andrew McWilliams singled in the fifth inning to drive in a run for the Stings (0-2). Cody Garza had a hit and scored one run, and Zack Powell and Tony Ware each singled for Texas City.
