PHOENIX – Ball High grad Nick Williams made quite an impression Saturday in his spring training debut with the Texas Rangers.

Williams homered in both his at-bats to help lead the Rangers to a 16-15 come-from-behind win against the Oakland Athletics.

The 2012 second-round draft pick tied it at 15 with his second homer in the top of the ninth inning. Williams’ homer in his first at-bat, a two-run shot, keyed a five-run seventh inning that put Texas ahead, 14-13.

He finished the game 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

Williams, 20, hit .293 with 17 homers in 95 games at Class A Hickory last season. Playing in the Arizona League in 2012, Williams hit .313 with a pair of homers and 27 RBI in 48 games.

“I’ve been seeing him a lot, I like the kid, but he’s in A-ball,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said. “Let him enjoy his moment that he had here. He should enjoy it and keep getting better and, hopefully, it will be his day when he can come to the big leagues and stay.”

Williams retuned to the plate Sunday and went 1-for-2 with a single.
