SHENANDOAH – Top-ranked Barbers Hill flexed its offensive muscle with a 10-0 run-rule win against Santa Fe in the opening game of their Region III-4A semifinal series Thursday at College Park High School.

The two teams return to Cavalier Field at 6:30 p.m. today. The Indians (25-9) need a win to force a decisive third game which, if needed, would be at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Anyone watching Thursday’s contest saw vivid proof why the Eagles are 29-0 this season.

Barbers Hill broke open a scoreless game with seven runs in the top of the third, then added a run in fourth and two more in the fifth to invoke the run rule.

Senior pitcher Randi Rupp allowed two baserunners in five no-hit innings.

Santa Fe’s Shelbi Doherty was hit by a pitch to open the first, and Mycahla Howard reached on a dropped third strike in the fourth.

Neither was able to advance on the basepath against Rupp, who struck out nine.

Santa Fe freshman hurler Shelbi Sunseri cruised through the first two innings, giving up just one hit with three strikeouts.

Sunseri hit a wall in the third inning when the Eagles sent 11batters to the plate. Three walks and a trio of extra-base hits accounted for much of the damage.

Six of the seven runs came with two outs as Sara Rupp, Courtney Fisher and Kiriany Hornberger hit consecutive run-scoring doubles.

Hornberger added a two-run home run to right field in the fifth to provide the 10-run margin that ended the game after five.

Alicia Owens led off the fifth with Santa Fe’s best shot at starting a rally. Owens slapped a line drive to center that was caught on the run with an outstanding effort by Braegan Hamilton.
