What seems like a short three years ago, I got excited over the "Mountain Man" and one I named the "Freshman" ...who were members of the then LaMarque's football team. Now, that "Freshman"....Ladarrian Ellis-Jones is going into what is his last hurrah for the Cougar Football Team this season.
    -
This young man has impressed me so much because he unselfishly labored for his team anyway he could in order for that team to be a success. They asked him to give up a chance to be one of the best running-back in the state of Texas, and play quarterback, a position he played in junior high school,...and he said yes.
    -
This year he is being moved back home to running-back where the sky is the limit for him, and to say he will make All-State at that position is almost a given. The highly ranked Cougars will go as far this year, as their running game, MANNED by Ladarrian, Mr.Cooper, and the young Mr. Jones along with their defense will carry them! Anything the new Quarterback will add to the mix, mill be icing on the cake.
    -
Lastly, I suspect this will be Jack's last year as head of the vaunted Cougar football team, and I for one, think it would be more than nice to send him out a champion! The man has been nothing but class since he's been here!
    -
So I say this to all who would come against us this year. We are on a mission,....we are on the prowl,.....WE ARE ON THE HUNT, .....AND WE ARE COMING FOR YOU!

Hitchcock has moved up to Division I and is now in District 14AAA Div 1 with Altair Rice, Edna, Hempstead, Palacios, and Vanderbilt Industrial. Dave Campbell's Texas Football has Hitchcock just missing the cut for the playoffs with a fifth-place finish in District 14-3A. With these small schools you never know what will happen. That's why I enjoy Texas small school football! Their Pre-District lineup includes Pope John XXIII, Danbury, Northland Christian, Kipp Sunnyside, and Sweeny.

As earlier stated, LM will probably stroll to the playoffs, TC will again be tough even with the twins now in college, SF and Ball will both post a few upsets, and I'm totally clueless on Hitchcock's forecast. On the northside of the county, Dickinson will make some noise along with Friendswood. All of CCISDs programs will shine too. I haven't heard anything from the Bolivar Peninsula on High Island's forecast. JBG will most likely get fed some of his "crow pie" at least once during the season by his TC relatives. This should be a fun season.

It's a small point, but leaving the past behind is harder when you still look the same today. Time to time, a bit of freshening up and a new look can make a big difference in attitude. Everything starts with attitude.
You don't have to abandon tradition, just maybe tweek it a bit, to get more in line with a psych boost.
    Hint.

Well, guys let.....let me say this about Galveston County football 2014! It is going to be some kind of year, okay? I can feel it! I can! Santa Fe fans have a right to be enthusiastic, they got a hell of a coach over there! TC too, and I said that when Surovik first got there!
    -
Ball High have an outstanding group of young coaches over there as well, this is why LM better be vigilant and sober when the TORS come blowing "up-off-in" here later this month!
    -
Dickinson is coming on strong, and we already know that Creek has a young buck at the QB position ( Chase Hildreth ) who should open up things for them, now that his brother ( Jarrett Hildreth ) has graduated and the coaches over there handed Chase the keys to the Jag!
    -
See, let me tell everybody something,...listen to this Old farm-boy from over yonder,....LM back in the day, SHOULD HAVE never allowed all those young coaches like Kanipes, Surovik, Wells, Heath, and DeAtley to get three inches out of the LaMarque City limits!!! That was the biggest dam mistake concerning athletics which was ever made over there. ( I have more I could say on this but I'll leave it at that. )
    -
That mistake alone cost LM at least TWO-THREE STATE Championship Trophies or more after Weddell left, and I am not taking anything away from Coach Brian Erwin. I could not do that anyway, because he coached LM to TWO State Championships himself. Kanipes, Wells, Heath, and Surovik are like well place mutual funds, ....because they start paying dividends early!
    -
I saved Jack for last! Jack is something special! BTW, it has not been ruled out that you might see me as the QB Club coach of the week when we play the Stings! That just a little "something...something" I'm working on.
    -
Well Mr. Gray, yall got something being built over in SF now, and I will be cheering for you guys, as Kanipes builds that program into a power to be reckoned with. Some might not agree with me but coaching makes a difference, it has been proven time and time again, in places like LM, TC, Pearland, Galveston, Friendswood, Clear Creek, and it will be proven again in SF with Kanipes being there.
    -
    Lastly I say this:

    -
IT IS TIME FOR GLAVESTON COUNTY FOOTBALL AND EVERYBODY SHOULD BE FGETTING READY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [smile]
    -
Mr. Buckner, That DC Smack-Talker is still on suspension for conduct disrespectful to the Duke of Smack! He needs to repent publicly before something can change
    [beam]......Ahhhhhhahahahhal-hooooooooooah

This is the most excited I've been about SF in years. I don't have my hopes up for any playoff runs but I am looking forward to some much needed improvenment and cosistancy. I think we are finally on track to build a strong program from the ground (7th grade) up. As for LM I have also heard they lost some good talent over the summer to transfers and that academics will play a big role this year as there will be no academic slack as in the past due to the close scrutny of the schools past academic performance. Could spell trouble down the road in mid to late season.

That was a good observation by carlosponce on his 8:30pm post about the Coogs. They will easily stroll to the playoffs but the lack of tough competition during the regular season will possibly lead to an early exit in the playoffs. Ya'll give JBG a chance to consult with that guy in DC and he'll get back with us on the official smacktalk for the season.

Jbgood, I know a lot of Santa Fe fans who hope you are right. I call this a "rebuilding" year for them with possible wins over Ball and Willowridge. They are in a tough district this year but then again the Indians have never been in an easy one.
As for La Marque, they'll take district easily and that's the problem. Without tough opponents to hone their skills I don't think they'll go all the way this year. You make a good sword under fire and their district just doesn't have it. Just an observation.

My friends from LaMarque... we may be few again this year, but I always admired quality over quantity. Let's hope since Kevin, James, txcanes, and a few others have left us we might pick up a few others... JBG I have an assignment for you (if you are willing to accept)... since your wisdom reaches out past the sport's section, let's see if you can recruit some of your friends that have "spirited" opinions within the political arena. I would rate gecroix and colosponce as “blue-chippers”, but I will trust your judgment… They must have tactical logic… no “emotional” babble. If you accept… go forth and prosper.

Where is JBG? I'm Hot!!!!!!! (mad ). These people knew or had reason to know, that you do not let coaching talent like Leland Surovik,of Texas City, Mike Jackson of LM, Mark Kanipes of Santa Fe, and ALLAN WEDDELL of Brazowood get in one room, in one place in Galveston County and not let JBG know they are there ahead of time!!!!!! I did not know nothing about it! I'm HOT!!!!
    -
I'm going to let it slide this time, but I'm...ahda...ahhh...I ...ah..did not appreciate that ahh-tall! Think about that now,....Weddell, Kanipes, Surovik, and Jackson in the same room IN LAMARQUE A WEEK AGO, AND NOBODY LET ME KNOW! That ain't right!!!
    -
I might take Kanipes against Surovik this year, and Ball already knows what we got for them in a couple more weeks. I must admit that new coach they have bothers me, and so does their Defensive Backfield Coach, called Mangum. I think my Cougars better be on upset alert this year when Ball High comes to town!
    -
"JBG tell us two things about high school football we don't know!" Okay here you go:
    -
    1) Santa Fe is going to shock some people this year!

    2) LM is going to take state this year, much to the dismay of those country boys from Navasota!
