CrossFit Reign of Pearland will host the second annual Gulf Coast Gauntlet on Saturday at Moody Gardens in Galveston, and community members are invited to attend the event in support of living healthy lifestyles and raising funds for children battling cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Three hundred athletes are set to compete in the fitness competition. Athlete registration opened June 1 and sold out almost immediately.

During the 2014 Gulf Coast Gauntlet, athletes will compete in one of four divisions: Rx, Scaled, Team or Masters. Those interested in attending the event are encouraged to purchase spectator tickets online by visiting www.gulfcoastgauntlet.com.

“The Gulf Coast Gauntlet is an amazing competition that brings athletes and spectators from across Texas, and even from some of our neighboring states,” said Troy Pope, CrossFit Reign member and Gulf Coast Gauntlet volunteer. “It is the competition to attend.”

CrossFit Reign has committed to donating a portion of the proceeds to the local 501(c)(3) charity, KidsRStrong2, in support of children battling life-threatening illnesses.

“It is important that the community understands that cancer in children is real and occurs regularly without warning every day,” said Andrew Gamble, CrossFit Reign owner and parent of a childhood cancer survivor. “We simply want to do our part in support of the numerous children battling daily, and encourage others to do the same.”

According to the National Cancer Institute, each year more than 13,000 children in the United States are diagnosed with cancer, which is the leading cause of death in children, after accidents.

In an effort to raise as much as possible in support for children battling life-threatening illnesses, CrossFit Reign has partnered with multiple local businesses and individuals who have agreed to sponsor the event.

Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, ChiroHealth Chiropractic Sports and Rehabilitation, E-Z Line Pipe Support, Life AsRx, Maggie Phillips Studios, Sherman Watkins PLLC, In The Box, Pro Shop, Pearland Elite Training Center, Get Rx’ed and Baker Hughes, along with numerous vendors, have committed to supporting the elite competition and cause.

“We are extremely happy that so many of the local businesses have partnered with us,” Gamble said. “We appreciate the support and look forward to having another successful event that ultimately has a huge impact on some special children.”
