Congratulations to the District 24-5A champion Clear Springs Chargers and runner-up Clear Falls Knights for advancing to regional golf competition.

Kudos also to Medalists Gavyn Freeland of Clear Lake and the Clear Creek Wildcats’ Riley Williams.

Freeland and Williams lead the All-District roster, accompanied by Jake Bell (Clear Springs), Ian Horne (Clear Falls), Raul Hernandez (Clear Falls) and Chandler Muscat (Clear Falls).

Second Team All-District were Cole Maxwell (Clear Springs), Ryan Grube (Clear Creek), Reed Giesinger (Clear Lake), Carson Baker (Clear Brook), Clayton Bonner (Clear Creek) and Chris Orosco (Clear Lake).

Lifting up

“Raise a Glass to CIS” is the theme for the wine enthusiast event April 28 at Bay Oaks Country Club, a function of the fifth annual Keep Kids in School Golf Tournament held the same day. Proceeds from the tournament and the event fund dropout prevention programs for the Clear Creek and Dickinson school districts. This year’s event honors Jan and Jim Sweeney of Minuteman Press and Big Daddy Marketing.

Tickets are $50 per person, seating is limited and reservations are requested. Contact Angela Jenkins at angela@cisba.org or 281-486-6698.

Holding high

The 19th annual Pilot Club of Dickinson tournament, a modified Florida scramble, is April 22 with a 1 p.m. shotgun start and dinner to follow. It’s all happening at Beacon Lakes Golf Club, and you can contact katgene97@aol.com or call 281-534-3229 for details.

If you cannot make the CIS or Pilot Club events, perhaps the Marathon United Way Golf tournament April 17 at Magnolia Creek Golf Course will fit your schedule. Contact Government Affairs Manager Ruth Rendon at 409-949-3122 or rmrendon@marathonpetroleum.com for information.

It’s Masters week. Don’t call, email, text, tweet, Instagram or otherwise attempt to contact me unless you smell smoke and can see that I’m the one burning. I’ll be ensconced in my recliner with a tunnel-vision focus on CBS for as many hours as I can stay awake.

Be safe, on and off the course.
