A republic is a union of states with equal voices. The voice of each state may be selected by democracy or a dictator. Democracy is not always "of, for and by the people". It can be used to give some votes more value than others. When it suppresses it's opposition Democracy becomes the creator of dictators.
BHO was the 2008 nominee of the Democrat party after Nancy Pelosi, dictator of the House, gave him all Super Delegates. HRC won more elected delegates but the Super Delegates had more value than elected delegates.
The most dangerous dictators are democratically elected by a minority of citizens.
Democracy can be "of, for and by the people" when all the people have a free and equal chance to vote.
Of, for and by the people works when the people vote.
