Before we denounce the Russians ...

    There is a fair amount of difference in some behind the scenes cloak and dagger operations that topple a weak regime and a massive military incursion of another nation's territory. Particularly when ancient, ethnic rivalries over that territory underlie the invasion.

    Better comparisons to what has just happened in the Ukraine and Crimea in the last few days would be the military incursion into Georgia by the (locally hated) Russian Army. Or, for a longer historical perspective, the Prague Spring, the Balkans or even the Nazi German invasion of Poland.

    These are much tighter comparisons. If you prefer to demonize the US, then I suggest trying the invasion of Grenada, that one was pretty dubious.
