It's not a problem at all, Ma'am, and doesn't take much time.
You see, my counter points can be found in dozens if not hundreds of reliable sources, not to mention just watching POTUS and paying attention to any of a dozen or so daily news sources.
    It's not spin, when it's fact....[beam]
I'm not a fan of Rush...although I don't much see how taking prescription pain pills are any worse than smoking dope...[whistling]...and that blow hard thingy sure does resemble someone who gives a lot of empty telepromptered speaches as much as it does a lot of talking into a microphone...but, I can't recall that guy's name....and it's not showing a lot of love for women to pay them less than the men around, well, whomever...
    [beam][beam][beam][beam]
See, it's quick, and easy...just stick with facts, not propaganda, and all becomes clear....usually......[wink]

Forming one's own opinions IS a very good thing, indeed....I fully agree....

pfinn, why do you attack anyone who calls you and your kind low information voters as being "name-calling" and yet you repeatedly use far worse language against those of us who bring the facts to the table?

Instead of going to the DNC talking points tell me what President Obama has done to make things better for you, pflinn. My health costs are up, my doctors tell me that the paperwork after ACA went into effect is very time consuming and due to the tax in medical equipment they hesitate in buying new more efficient models. Teachers under TRS Active-Care tell me that their costs are going up. Insurance for retired teachers is supposed to go up but so far they haven't said by how much. My relatives in active military did not like the change in the "Rules of Engagement" when Obama took office. Friends, relatives, and friends of relatives who work for the Border Patrol tell me of the decrease in morale since Obama took office also. You don't have to listen to Rush Limbaugh to know that things aren't right in this country. All you have to do is ask your friends and relatives.

I really hate taking up so much of your time refuting my "lists."
I admit, all of these "talking points" have a liberal spin to them. All of your refutations have a conservative spin to them, which you call a "reality check."

Have you been listening to Rush L. and drinking his kool-aid?

I don't listen to Rush, as he is a misogynistic, blow-hard, pill-popping scumbag! (Oops! there I go again, calling names! Guess I'll have to go stand in the corner!)

Everyone believes what they want to believe. I form my own opinions and urge everyone to do the same.

    Again? OK.

    1) 'Saved America from another Great Depression' is verbiage from a press release issued by the White House itself. The first stimulus was actually set in motion under Pres. Bush, who, as a courtesy to the incoming newly elected Obama Admin., delayed signing so that the new Pres. could do so, who promptly left out any mention of that. Since then, the second 'stimulus' money remains largely unaccounted for and a great deal of it went to Admin. donors and backers, and the economy after 5 1/2 years of Pres. Obama economic policies went into negative territory by 2.9% last quarter, as real unemployment stays at near 12%.

    2) The ACA 'reform' is in such a state of flux, that so far the promises of what you can keep if you want to have proven to be willful, known lies. The costs have gone up substantially, not down, for people paying for their own medical care, and the access to doctors and hospitals has been reduced, not expanded. A 'child' is now a 26 year old, hardly an improvement, and is mainly to cover the lack of jobs under Admin. policies and thus the terrible unemployment rates for younger Americans. And, to date, the ACA's back end, where payments are made and records kept, remains unfinished, and is currently leaving millions in the lurch for whether they even have coverage, how to get subsidies, whether the insurance companies can get paid, etc. It's a 'reform that's a debacle, to date, having made a hugely bigger mess of the mess it sought to eliminate.

    3) Simpson-Bowles, well-intentioned, has hardly led to 'fiscal responsibility', and has been largely used as a tool of political ideology. As in the current gutting of our military forces to lowest levels since pre-WWII. And the federal debt has certainly shown no tendency to 'responsibility', having increased over 7 trillion bucks and climbing. The use of 'executive orders' to not just get around the law, but to actually ignore or even alter laws, by the Executive, unilaterally, have made S-B pretty much meaningless. While credit card fees were lowered and more transparency was required, actual credit card interest rates increased about 2% by 2013, and interest rates on some other consumer credit went up, too, comparatively. The Small Business Jobs Act of 2010 was on its surface well intentioned, but in the Admin.s' perpetually down economy and with the business crushing effects of the ACA, the actual benefits to small business have been overwhelmed.

    4) The 'student loan program overhaul' is unequally applied, encourages students to borrow more than they are likely to ever repay, makes it easier to avoid repaying or be forgiven if they don't, thus screwing taxpayers footing the loans. Student loans are now in the trillions, creating yet another titanic unfunded future taxpayer obligation.

    5) Ford didn't need to be 'saved'. And GM still owes taxpayers billions, and is back in deep trouble already again with its latest mess ups. And Chrysler, after taking two federal bailouts over the years, sold out to Italian FIAT, as its way of thanking the American taxpayers.

    6) Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was an order signed into law by Pres. Clinton, hardly a flaming conservative, who agreed that the mission of the military was national security, not political correctness.

    7) Pres. Obama pays women in his own Administration an average of 13% less than the men.

    8) Iraq has descended into chaos because the President did not listen to his Generals, and now we have boots on the ground there again, and will have for the foreseeable future,. ISIS has established a radical islamist caliphate that encompasses much of Iraq and Syria due to no intervention and the feckless POTUS lead from behind policy like the 'Red Line in Syria. In Afghanistan 3 out of 4 combat deaths have occurred on Obama's watch and now he's trying to leave there, too, ignoring his Generals, again. The final dispatch of OBL took place 10 years after the hunt started in earnest in 2001, and was ONLY accomplished because of the intial use of interrogation that Obama and the Dems decry as 'torture, then expanded on by the CIA spy network, and local informants. It's not fair to bad mouth it, then take full credit when it works out for you.

Whoever is making up those lists of 'accomplishments' needs to get new glasses, or perhaps take a reality check.... [beam][beam]

Promises Kept - Pres. Obama's Legacy:

1 Signed into law an economic plan that saved America from a depression, restored growth, and created or saved as many as 3.6 million jobs.

    2. Signed into law landmark health insurance reform that holds insurance companies accountable, gives people and small businesses greater control of health care, and improves the quality of health care for all Americans.

    3. Fought against Wall Street lobbyists to sign into law historic consumer protections and financial reforms that shield American families from unfair lending practices from credit card and mortgage companies, rein in the excesses of Wall Street, and work to prevent future financial crises.

    4. Reformed the college loan system by ending subsidies to banks and using the money to make college more affordable. He also invested in community colleges that are providing Americans with the skills they need to succeed in today's economy.

    5. Rescued the American auto industry, which saved millions of American jobs and helped GM and Chrysler become profitable again while repaying taxpayers.

    6. Repealed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” which makes it possible for individuals to serve in the military regardless of their sexual orientation.

    7. Helped women get the equal pay they deserve by signing into law the Lilly Ledbetter Act.

    8. Ended the war in Iraq, initiated a responsible draw down of forces in Afghanistan, and ordered the operation that killed Osama bin Laden.

This last one, he is still working on.

"truth was sated"? Truth can not be sated, you can NEVER get enough truth! The Conservatives Stand for Truth, Justice, and the American Way! And some Republicans are Conservative! Vote Conservative!
Money? We want to save the taxpayers money.
Graft? There is another definition of graft: To unite (a shoot or bud) with a growing plant by insertion or by placing in close contact.
You could say the TEA Party was grafted onto the Conservative movement. Thank you Island Runner for the opportunity to clarify your statement.

#6 WAS the report given on August 6, 2001. It was simply a background on Osama Bin Laden's threats presented on American television in 1997. It was ignored because it had been around for 4 years and any American with a television set was aware of the threat.
And again you cite New York Times' interpretation ELEVEN years AFTER THE ATTACK. Remember the saying "Hindsight is better than foresight" ? Again, biased Left wing sources, especially the New York Times. I give it a D based on your source material.

No, but many of the 40 reports the CIA gave the GW Bush Admin, beginning in the spring of 2001, such as the one on July 24, 2001, said that the attack had been postponed, but was coming. 40 REPORTS in April, May, June, July, & Aug. 2001.

As far as being imminent--over 40 reports delivered by August 6, 2001, to Condaleeza Rice and Pres. Bush, still did not set off alarm bells. The reports were basically ignored.

"In the aftermath of 9/11, Bush officials attempted to deflect criticism that they had ignored C.I.A. warnings by saying they had not been told when and where the attack would occur. That is true, as far as it goes, but it misses the point. Throughout that summer, there were events that might have exposed the plans, had the government been on high alert. Indeed, even as the Aug. 6 brief was being prepared, Mohamed al-Kahtani, a Saudi believed to have been assigned a role in the 9/11 attacks, was stopped at an airport in Orlando, Fla., by a suspicious customs agent and sent back overseas on Aug. 4. Two weeks later, another co-conspirator, Zacarias Moussaoui, was arrested on immigration charges in Minnesota after arousing suspicions at a flight school. But the dots were not connected, and Washington did not react."
    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/11/opinion/the-bush-white-house-was-deaf-to-9-11-warnings.html?_r=0

    And this:
"Covert operatives had long warned that Bin Laden's network was planning attacks on American interests. President Bush received 40 highly classified intelligence briefings from the time he entered the Oval Office up to the 9/11 attacks. A reiterated theme warned UBL was seeking targets outside the United States."

"Yet George W. Bush received a report, less than five weeks prior to September 11th, that specifically warned UBL was planning to attack Americans at home."

"Titled, "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.," it was one of our nation's most classified documents, a Presidential Daily Brief (PDB), dated August 6, 2001. The PDB noted:

"F.B.I. information since that time indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks, including recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York."
President Bush said he did not want to be "swatting flies."

It's important, imho, to lead by example, as long as the example is a good one.
If you want your kids to read, then the parents must read.
If you want them to do something besides sit with a little screen 3 inches from their face all day, the parents must do the same.
if you want them as healthy as possible, the parents must try to stay healthy
Don't want them to smoke or be dopers or drunks, then the parent has to not do that, too.
Do as I say, not as I do, is a P poor pardon my French way of raising kids.
In the absence of parenting, many kids emulate what their teachers say and do.
That's why a good teacher is worth his/her weight in gold, and a bad one not worth a pile or worn out erasers (or, these days, styluses...[wink]).
Despite our political differences, I get the feeling, ma'am, you're a pretty good teacher....
Now, don't make a liar out of me...lying is a bad example to set for kids....

If you check the reference numbers you will see they mixed Newspaper reports and articles (Washington Post, New York Times) with actual archives.
    The only non-newspaper interpretations were # 2 and #6.
As you point out, #2 was directed by the CIA director to President Clinton.
#6 was archival, a repeat of Bin Ladin's television interview on American television in 1997 that his followers would repeat Ramzi Yousef's attempt to bring down the World Trade Center in 1993.This was not new intelligence but something all Americans saw on television in 1997 and 1998.There was nothing to indicate the attack was imminent.

Thanks! Glad your kid reads the newspaper regularly. There is something for everyone in the newspaper. When I ask the high school students if they read the newspaper, many of them do not get it at home, but do read it at school.

Of those that do read the paper, most do not bother with the Letters to the Editor. They read the Sports, Comics, Police Beat, TV Guide, and some of the featured articles.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11_intelligence_before_the_attacks

    Bush era reports[edit]
    May 1, 2001[edit]
On May 1, 2001, the CIA informed the White House that "a group presently in the United States" was in the process of planning a terrorist attack.[4]

    June 29, 2001[edit]
The President's Daily Brief on June 29, 2001 stated that "[the United States] is not the target of a disinformation campaign by Usama Bin Laden". The document repeated evidence surrounding the threat, "including an interview that month with a Middle Eastern journalist in which Bin Laden aides warned of a coming attack, as well as competitive pressures that the terrorist leader was feeling, given the number of Islamists being recruited for the separatist Russian region of Chechnya."[4]

The CIA reiterated that the attacks were anticipated to be near-term and have "dramatic consequences".[4]

    July 10, 2001[edit]
In July 2001, J. Cofer Black, CIA's couterterrorism chief and George Tenet, CIA's director, met with Condoleezza Rice, the National Security Advisor, to inform her about communications intercepts and other top-secret intelligence showing the increasing likelihood that al-Qaeda would soon attack the United States. Rice listened but was unconvinced, having other priorities on which to focus. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld questioned the information suggesting it was a deception meant to gauge the U.S. response.[5][6]

    August 6, 2001[edit]
On August 6, 2001, the President's Daily Briefing, entitled Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US warned that bin Laden was planning to exploit his operatives' access to the U.S. to mount a terrorist strike: FBI information... indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country, consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attack.[6] Rice responded to the claims about the briefing in a statement before the 9/11 Commission stating the brief was "not prompted by any specific threat information" and "did not raise the possibility that terrorists might use airplanes as missiles."[7]

And, yes, I know that President Clinton received some reports in 1998.

    Clinton era report[edit]
In December 1998, the CIA's Counterterrorist Center reported to President Bill Clinton that al-Qaeda was preparing for attacks in the U.S. that might include hijacking aircraft.[1][2]

    Then there was this:

    April 2001 Massoud speech[edit]
Another warning came from Ahmad Shah Massoud, leader of the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance, in April 2001, in a speech before the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium where he asked for humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan. Massoud told the parliament that his intelligence agents had gained limited knowledge about a large-scale terrorist attack on U.S. soil being imminent. Massoud was assassinated by al-Qaeda two days before the 9/11 attacks on September 9, 2001.[3]

What is annoying is when he takes credit for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq then when things go bad, claims he was not responsible. Mr. Obama cannot have both sides of the coin.

You said "pflinn, just because some of these things happened to occur between 2009 and the present can you truly list them as one of the president's accomplishments?
Have to agree on that. This must mean that the bad things can't be his. You can't have it just one way, as it has to go both ways.

Sorry...guilty, as charged. I kinda' like tea bags, though! They make a quick cuppa' tea! The erasers are clean, once again. Yes 8/06/01 report is correct. I think that I have the same keyboard problem another poster has here, only mine is probably in my brain (was that you, ge, or bv?).

School will be starting soon, and I won't have much time for this. I am retired, so I just substitute teach at the high school. I try not to show my political beliefs at school. If a student asks, I will tell them, but I do not preach my politics there, or my religion, either. Since students do not read the GD News, Letters to the Ed. they wouldn't know.

Just an ordinary citizen... working...adding to my income...paying taxes, etc.

Like I stated before, California has a state Income tax and a high cost of living especially in housing. That's why many Californians now call themselves TEXANS. Californians have a cost of living index of 151. Texans have a cost of living index of 90. That means for what it costs $90 in Texas in goods, services, etc. you have to spend $151 in California to buy an equivalent amount. Housing is even worse. Spend $81 in housing costs in Texas. To get an equivalent in California you'd have to pay $237.

Could have fooled me the way you lap up every Left wing spin about Obama as if it were Gospel.
    3. See what I mean about Leftist spin? Bush's war? The war was with Congressional approval. Even Senator Clinton voted for it.
    4. I go by what the American military says. What are you going by? All enhanced methods of interrogation were tried on American troops and even on some reporters and you call it torture. Look at Time Magazine:
    http://swampland.time.com/2011/05/04/did-torture-get-the-us-osama-bin-laden/
And the Americans had nothing to do with the capture and killing of Muammar Gaddafi.
    5. 911 could have been prevented if President Clinton had only taken advantage of the numerous times Osama Bin Laden was offered to him.

Bill was worried about civilian deaths but intelligence showed Osama was out in the open and civilians were not in danger.

Part of my list was missing.

    1. RED states vs. BLUE states. The study you quoted was from the decade 2001 to 2011. Since Obama took office in 2009, that is hardly a fair representation of what kind of jobs were created. In 2011, 9 out of 10 Red states were at the bottom of the list as far as per capita income. Red states are right-to-work states, anti-union, anti-raising the minimum wage. Texas was not among those states, but pretty close.

California, and the rest of the blue states have come back with more hi-tech jobs. Engineers and computer systems people have their pick of jobs, and most are employed in large urban areas. The top 10 states in per capita income are mostly Blue states.

Federal tax dollars from Blue states subsidize Red states.

"I believe that 9/11 could have been prevented if the Bush admin. had not discounted "terrorists learning to fly planes and hi-jacking them," in the 8/06/11 Intelligence Report."
I believe you mean the 8/6/2001 report.
    Yep, I agree.
No reason at all to not be able to make safe the entire United States when you have a whole 36 days to do so....
The period from 1996 to 2001 when the terrorists were enaged in learning to fly at various facilities around the world, culminating in 'study' here in the states, are irrelevant...
    [wink]

I've already debunked the list of 'accomplishments', the long and the short.
It was easy, since 25 of them were the same cut and paste job another poster had done a month ot two earlier.
I can post the whole 191 line long debunking again, if you'd like, but that line counting lady is gonna get PO'd at me again.....

I do not "worship" (your word) Pres. Obama. I believe both sides serve kool-aid. I'll stick to water and, occasionally, Shiner Bock Beer.

The debt increased mainly because of the Obama Tax Cuts and The Economic Stimulus Act.
    http://useconomy.about.com/od/usdebtanddeficit/p/National-Debt-Under-Obama.htm
    3. The falling of Iraq, rise of Isis, etc. All consequences of Bush's war. And, all still remain to be seen. Did not the American people want us out of Iraq? It is an Iraq failure, not ours, to control and govern their country. They have a leader. If the leader will not listen to us, we go.
    4. Bush intelligence did not get OBL or Gaddafi. How do you know that torture works? You would say anything (lies, maybe the truth) to avoid torture.
    5. We will always be under constant threat. I believe that 9/11 could have been prevented if the Bush admin. had not discounted "terrorists learning to fly planes and hi-jacking them," in the 8/06/11 Intelligence Report.

I do not worship President Obama. He has made many mistakes. He is a human being, and an elected official. He is a flawed individual, as we all are. But, I do not think that he is deliberately trying to change the country for the worse.

Laura Bush made 3 trips to China as First Lady accompanied by President Bush. They were official state visits, even the third in which they also attended the Bejing Games. Michelle Obama's trip to China was without her president husband. She was accompanied by her mother and daughters. It was a touring vacation. It was not an official state visit.

    Media Matters?
It's no wonder this country is in the shape it's in...

    Newsmax, March 24, 2014
"Citing data obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, the study estimates hourly operating costs for the presidential jet as $228,288 — a 27 percent increase from $179,750 an hour just one year ago.

HELLO - any chance you 'progressives' will ever move into 2014?
I understand your desire to keep referring back to Bush, because it covers for the fecklessness of Obama, but, really, you can't play last weeks poker hand.
What did you teachers and nurses do...excuse poor performance or care by pointing to some that was also bad in the past?
    Your double standard is showing....

As opposed to Mrs. Bush's yearly trips to China, I'm sure....

    To bvresident,
When you cannot refute the facts, you resort to running down the fact provider. That is your MOA (method of attack). Calling person who likes or agrees with President Obama "a low-information voter" is using your typical rhetoric, which you call your "opinion" or "evaluation." It is also a desperate attempt at discrediting a person's views.

If you cannot refute the message, then, by all means, start name-calling and verbally attacking the messenger. That is the mature way to express yourself. (sarcasm intended)

When are you going to learn that "putting someone down" or categorizing someone is not the way to criticize or "evaluate" their message. Their message is just as important as yours (believe it, or not). Each of us has one vote.

pflinn, just because some of these things happened to occur between 2009 and the present can you truly list them as one of the president's accomplishments? As a classroom teacher I hope you had the opportunity to have a truly gifted student enrolled in your class. Nothing you could have taught him, just stand back and let him do his thing. Did you take credit for his gifts? I hope not. Your time should have been devoted to the majority of the students who were not gifted. Remember Professor John Houseman told Robin Williams to leave Julliard because there was nothing he could teach him, he felt Robin was that talented.
    1. Do an item analysis. President Obama did not create those jobs. The jobs were created in Red States. Thank Rick Perry and the Red State Governors for their policies and those jobs.
    2. This is a DNC talking point. He cut HIS OWN deficit (the one he handed himself) but increased the National debt.
    3. He has also had the greatest failures in foreign affairs. Witness the falling of Iraq, the rise of Isis, the murder of Christians, etc.
    4. Osama's death is due to the US military from intelligence gathered with "enhanced interrogation techniques" which Obama called torture. Yes Bin Laden died during this administration. Obama had NOTHING to do with the death of Muammar Gaddafi.
    5. So far, but we are under constant threat.
I live on the Planet Earth and worship the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob-Yahweh and his son Yeshua (Jesus), but I see some still worship Barack Obama as their god. Don't drink the kool-aid!

I remember those so-called "working" vacations. I also remember him in photo-ops riding around in his air-conditioned pickup truck, hat, jeans, and blue work shirt. I remember the photo of him cutting brush with a chain saw. (That probably took all of 5 min. to stage. After all, the sun gets hot outside in Texas.) He was supposed to look like a "regular" guy. And he did. But George, to quote a well-known reporter was, "born on third base and thought he hit a triple."

After a sad, somber speech concerning an Israeli bus bombing he turned around on the golf course and said, "Now watch this drive."

He also entertained celebrities on that ranch. I remember Lance Armstrong trying to teach him how to ride a bike.

I remember Cindy Sheehan and others protesting the war at the Crawford ranch.

President Bush's "healthy work ethic" involved getting up in the morning and turning most things over to Tricky Dick Cheney (Rummy, Baker, Rice, etc.). He showed up for meetings, press conferences, and campaigning in front of the military. "Showing up" was his main "work."

Nursejayne, can you provide any facts of the actual costs-not the per hour costs-of Bush's AF1 use? Media Matters is a left-wing organization and we know as of yesterday that your president left Martha's Vineyard to fly back to DC for a podium picture and to stick his nose in the Mo. shooting incident. Hussein's Hawaii trips and Moochelle's European and winter vacations with her Beyonce' style entourage I'm willing to bet have cost us millions more than all of Bush's trips in total.

You used the right word - "working". And they were not day trips. And you last line could be used for any president since 1953.

During Bush’s two terms, the cost of operating Air Force One ranged from $56,800 to $68,000 an hour. Bush used Air Force One 77 times to go to his ranch in Crawford, Texas. Using the low end cost of $56,800, Media Matters calculated that each trip to Crawford cost taxpayers $259,687, and $20 million total for Bush’s ranch flights.

Bush’s “working vacations” cost taxpayers a small fortune in travel costs because President Bush and his staff would make day trips on Air Force One all across the country in order to counter the criticism that he was on vacation too often. For eight years, Bush essentially used Air Force One as his personal vacation taxi service.

First you ask for President Obama's accomplishments, then you tell her not to give them. I've already listed his accomplishments--twice in the paper. You Repubs?conservatives/ teabaggers do not like most of them, but you cannot deny them.

Here are 5 more for you:
    1. The economy has improved just about every month of the Obama Administration. More jobs created in his first 4 years than Bush had in 8 years.
    2. No president in our history has cut government spending more than Obama. He has cut the deficit he was handed about 60%.
    3. He has had great achievements in foreign affairs; getting Syria to admit to and give up WMD without firing a shot for one; getting Iran to open up to inspections for another.
    4. No OBL and no Qaddfy.
    5. He has kept this country safe from another 9/11 without getting us into another costly war.

Maybe you live on a different planet than I do.

She's another low-information voter still grasping to the Hope-and-Change thing that went away after his first term failure.

President Bush used the Crawford Ranch for "working vacations" where he brought many world leaders during his years in the White House. He had a healthy work ethic; same cannot be said about the current President. I see him as frivolous in the extreme, someone who is most impressed by Hollywood personalities.

Immigration Reform is just a DNC talking point that we don't need. It's code for AMNESTY. The Immigration Laws currently on the books need to be enforced. And that 379 Bush vacation days is nothing but a scam put out by the Leftist media and the DNC to discredit George W. Bush. It includes WORKING trips to the Crawford Ranch and Camp David. It includes trips in which he hosted foreign dignitaries. If you've ever hosted guests you know it's NO vacation.
NO INFRASTRUCTURE improvements acted on by Boehner and the House? H.R.2952 - Critical Infrastructure Research and Development Advancement Act of 2014 was passed by the House and now sits in the Senate. Current status: Referred in Senate on 07/29/2014.

Ms. Bourgeois. You cite a bunch of meaningless numbers. There is no way to measure how much a president works. He is judged by his accomplishments Can you list Mr. Obama's accomplishements? And I don't mean repeating Democratic talking points!
