Politics is a blood sport in League City

I have watched League City politics for years and to put it mildly, it is a blood sport and there are a lot of strange things happening. In my opinion, this recent censure event takes the cake.

It appears that a city manager has gotten in the middle of an election cycle. I am sure he is highly qualified and has a good résumé — and can do a good job here — and I believe he is well-versed in the political games. He was picked partly because he was close to what council’s view of government is.

As a manger, I am sure he has had worse email, letters and face-to-face words — and words on TV and radio — than that email from the councilman. Why wait so long to carry it out in a public meeting? I would hope he had thicker skin than that and can stand a little opposition. He said a manual told him to, but I would bet in that same manual it says stay out of local politics.

Since his job, pay and future in the city depends on four people, is he trying to make sure there is no opposition on council?

His job as a nonelected official is to manage the operation of the city and not the operation of government — that is the citizens’ job. If you do not believe this goes on behind the scenes, look at why mangers here and elsewhere have quit or were fired.
