Good point JBG. If Watkins gets her way it'll be 3-5 more years of incompetence, declining enrollment, students and taxpayers robbed, more of the same as experienced the last 3-5 years. Pull the plug, lock the doors, and go home. Give the students a chance by attending a different isd or charter school. Money and minds are being wasted keeping LMISD open.

    rah,
My sentiments exactly! LMISD is so far in the tank now, it is foolish and folly, to even think that an acceptable turnaround can be made. What will the cost be in the quality in human lives in the future? They sent their Superintendent to Austin to plead for YEARS of educational amnesty,...and to curry special favors from the state so that they may continue what I have called a "REIGN OF EDUCATIONAL TERROR ON THE KIDS OF THIS COMMUNITY!"
    -
This is unacceptable to those who are speaking out against what is transpiring here, and it should be for all taxpayers. The only thing I know about these kids who are being educationally shortchanged, and deprived is that I use to be one who walked in their shoes years ago,...and I know the road they must travel to even think about recovering from the damage suffered. Many will never make it.
    -
Once they have traveled through LMISD, and out into the world, any damage done, or deficiencies suffered, will soon be forgotten by those who were the cause of them because in their minds MONEY trumps LOVE,..INTEGRITY, and DUTY.
    -
The TEA should be aware that LMISD is like approaching dark, dry, rain clouds in a time of drought and famine,...sailing over high mountains, PROMISING MUCH BUT GIVING NOTHING!"
    -
It is time to put an end to this madness. Ms. Watkins is like the little boy who did all he could when he stuck his finger in a hold in the dike in order to prevent a flood from destroying a town, dramatized in a literary piece supposedly written by the American writer Mary Mapes Dodge.
    -
The difference in the two scenarios is,.. in Ms. Dodges writings, the little boy climbed up the side of the dam,...and rammed his finger in the hole BEFORE it became a "GAP"....and thereafter was able to recruit the right help in order to save the town.
    -
The operative word here is "BEFORE!" A day later and the little boy's efforts would have been futile,...as much Ms. Watkins' is now. I'm not blaming Ms. Watkins,...if anything she has my admiration. I don't think I would've been brave enough to put my reputation on the line ,... jumping into a "pit of quicksand" like this.
    -
I tried to believe,..I really did,...but when it takes someone three or four times to submit a simple, acceptable plan solicited by the state, even with hired experts being paid to assist,...something is not right. You don't have to be a Rhodes Scholar to figure that out. It is time to go in another direction!
    -
Sometimes change is not all it is cracked up to be. We have seen change in LMISD before! We have observed good change, ( Bowie, Pratt, Armstrong, Drake ) and we have observed BAD CHANGE. ( you can fill in the names here,...I don't care to ).
    -
Right now these kids stand in the need of GOOD CHANGE! Here is a request for the State Educational Agency,...PULL THE PLUG on LMISD, and pull it quick!

It is hard too rescue a ship that is almost totally submersed in water. Watkins chose a very long hill battle. Instead of moving forward and up it moves straight up like an elevator. I suppose this will earn her brownie points as a stepping stone to the next project.

"A 1994 study found support for the theory that interracial contact in elementary or secondary school positively affects long-term outcomes in a way that can help blacks overcome perpetual segregation. The study reviewed previous research and determined that, as compared to segregated blacks, desegregated blacks are more likely to set higher occupational aspirations, attend desegregated colleges, have desegregated social and professional networks as adults, find themselves in desegregated employment, and work in white-collar and professional jobs in the private sector."

"Short-term and long-term benefits of integration are found for minority and majority students alike. Students who attend integrated schools are more likely to live in diverse neighborhoods as adults than those students who attended more segregated schools. Integrated schools also reduce stereotypes and prevent the formation of prejudices in both majority and minority students."
    -
This contents of this study is only one reason the state needs to SHUT LMISD down. There are others. I hate deceptions, and there are many associated with LMISD. One is they are passing themselves off as a school district but seems to be unable to function as one. It's real functionality seems to be for the creation of jobs,...or an employment industry.
    -
It is widely agreed on and supported that most people are products of the environment they are restricted to,...and if that is true, and it is,...how could a parent leave their child in an atmosphere of failure, when there are other positive alternatives available to them?
    -
How much longer will the state put up with this kind of failure coming out of LMISD? Out of pure fairness and or due process,..to North Forest ISD they need to take action now. Are those kids up there any better than these down here, Mr. Price? NO!!!
    NO I SAY!!!!!!!!!
    -
So I come to say to you this evening my friends, however ahhhh difficult the moment, however, frustrating the hour,......IT WILL NOT be long,..because TRUTH crushed to the earth will rise again!!!
    -
How Longgg will we be made to wait on justice, and fairness for these kids here? Not Long, because NO LIE can live forever!!!!!!!
    -
How Long must we wait? Not Long,...because it is written that every man will REAP WHAT HE SOWS!!!!
    -
I say it is time for the state to ERADICATE the POT HOLES of second class which are inserted in the highway of knowledge, and educational excellence here! That's right! Free these kids,....and let them go forth from this gerrymandered trap!

LOL Gecroix, well that's certainly put in a way that I've not yet done in such a way myself before, but you did in fact hit the nail on the head!

The district will see in a few weeks just well their doing with our students when they get their STAAR test results back. Then and only then will we, as well as, TEA see exactly whose lying and whether the district is truly worth saving at this point?

There's lots of stink that's recently been coming from out of the district that they've managed to cover up themselves, but just like history has proven for them thus far, that too I'm sure will soon come to an end!

It's just my opinion, but the first step on the trip out of the LMISD toilet has to be deciding what the ultimate goal is FOR the LMISD.
    Is it :
    1) A good education in an atmosphere and with staff that fosters such for the students.
    2) A social experiment.
    3) A jobs producer for friends and favorites.
    4) Some combination of the above.
I submit with any due respect that unless #1 is actually #1, then the toilet may as well be flushed right now, and save a lot more stink from being produced.

I think the Eagle's nest only has one member, the chairman. Self appointed, self anointed, and self serving. If it were for real then it could be a political force.

Ooops! The fingers were typing faster than the brain, that should have been, "perhaps since the Eagle's Nest has already made such a name for itself in having destroyed our school district, they can maybe consider changing their name". [sad]

Gecroix, you stated exactly what LMISD needs and that's a good house cleaning before anybody can begin believing once again that our school district can actually be resurrected from the dead!

Mr. JBG, I too thought of all the great board members and leaders that once served our district and made us who we were back in the day. Surely, many of them are rolling over in their graves seeing how these current board members have destroyed what they worked so hard to build?

I don't see many people selling their current homes and moving within the LMISD boundaries in order to throw their full support behind LMISD and it should be no surprise to anyone as to why they wouldn't?

Paul, perhaps since the Eagle's Nest has already made such a name for itself in creating in having destroyed our school district, they can maybe consider changing their name to the "Eagles Nest Retirement Retreat" for all of the "Has Been's", "Wanna-be's", "Used-to-Be's" and those simply looking for that perfect cookie cutter mold way of thinking that's more fitting to their own lifestyle?

Out of sight is NOT out of mind especially for those of us who aren't wearing rose colored glasses, blinders or believing what school board members and district officials are trying to convince us since their actions continue speaking MUCH louder than their words! [wink]

When asked to take a crew and go in and clean up what another crew had started, my first comment was almost always some situation appropriate version of 'OK, we can do that, but get those other guys out of there first, so we can do it our way, and faster'.
Here's a note that I personally feel is situation appropriate in this case:
You cannot 'help' anybody who doesn't really want it, and who is not willing to surrender themselves to it.
It compounds the difficulty when the ones needing help have proven to be utterly helpless, themselves.

Has anyone seen my old friend Thelma?
Can somebody tell me where she's gone?
You know she served a lot of constituents here,
but I looked around and she'd move on.

Why doesn't Mr. Taylor ask the board why they never allowed input from the community at large before this.... The only ones that they took advice from was the Eagles Nest group..... Tell us Mr. Taylor how well that worked for LMISD????

Journalistic B.S. from Hubris Taylor. He should be forced to preface each of his "Opinion" columns with the disclaimer, "The following opinion has no factual basis on which my opinion was formed."

When Taylor attacked me in an opinion piece without having ever spoken with me or read any of the evidence, I knew then that this guy believes himself to be so incredibly intelligent that he doesn't need facts on which to base his opinion.

In reality, Mr. Price needs to clean house and give the taxpayers a new board with which to attack the district problems. Calling out the taxpayers for not supporting this current bunch of loonies when we've all (I guess except for Hubris) seen their lack of qualifications and abilities to function is beyond the pale. This board is incapable of turning the district around and it doesn't matter how much support Ms. Watkin's has from the taxpayers. The real question now is whether Mr. Price has what it takes to even make a run at fixing this mess. So far, it doesn't look promising.

Ordinary citizens are paying their taxes and not getting squat in return Herber. LMISD is getting support from TEA via Mr. Price. You could be the celebrity chef for the famous "Chicken Dinners" and cal it your "support".

    Heber, come on now....

Why should a whole community be the one's to have to change in order to help see the very people who are currently holding our school district hostage succeed?

Nothing has changed in the fact that we still have the worst school board members that our community has ever witnessed since LMISD was first established. The flavor on the menu in the administration building hasn't changed in years either except for a new superintendent whose still learning as she goes. What definitely hasn't changed is the fact that our students are still not meeting academic standards and our district is barely financially solvent because of the continous decline in our student enrollment.

Why would anyone with any business sense want to support a business that has proven to fail time and time again by doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result?

These are the exact same people who refuse to make the necessary changes in order to be successful, so why would anyone waste their time and energy now supporting their failed agendas?

What must happen before someone would be willing to step forward and lend their support is to see ALL of these incompetent school board immediately resign and allow Mr. Carlos Price to replace them with a group of new, QUALIFIED members from the community who knows what they are doing and who can FINALLY get the district moving back in the right direction by their actions and not just empty promises like we've been hearing from them.

The school board members need to either "put up or shut up". If they refuse to resign than don't count on the support from our community coming to their rescue any time soon. The time for that has certainly passed! [yawn]
