Willie Gus Phillips, 90, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Baywood Crossing Rehabilitation Center in Pasadena, Texas. .
He was born January 16, 1923 in Fannett, Texas to parents, Jim and Willie Danzel Phillips. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, after which he returned to Galveston where he played baseball and later became a member of the 135 Iron Worker’s Local. For almost thirty years Gus was a well-known shrimper in Galveston. After his retirement to Clear Lake City, he continued to enjoy watching baseball and fishing with family and friends.
