DICKINSON — An 18-year-old man who dashed across Interstate 45 was struck and killed Tuesday night, police said. Two northbound lanes of I-45 near the on-ramp from FM 517 in Dickinson were closed after the auto-pedestrian accident.
The accident happened at about 6 p.m.
A 41-year-old man was driving a 2012 Nissan truck and entering the freeway. He checked for traffic and was merging into the traffic when a man wearing dark clothing ran into his path, Sgt. James Johnson said. The driver, who is from Pearland, had his 12-year-old son in the truck with him at the time of the accident, Johnson said.
Police said the man killed in the accident was Matthew Moore of Dickinson.
Witnesses told police investigators they saw Moore dash across the northbound lanes after jumping over the center median traffic divider from the southbound side of the interstate.
The two right lanes, on-ramp and freeway shoulder were closed for several hours as police investigated the accident. The driver of the truck and his son were treated for minor injuries at the scene, Johnson said.
The driver will not be cited in the fatal accident, police said.
