GALVESTON — The Galveston Educational Foundation is reminding supporters that the first Friday of every month is Friends of the Foundation Day.

Foundation supporters are asked to wear their T-shirts. Proceeds support the foundation, which supports the Galveston Independent School District.

The Friends of the Foundation program is an initiative to thank teachers and give them a little recognition. The Friends of the Foundation is a collaboration between private philanthropy, the business community and supporters of education.

At the first drawing, Courtney McClanahan of Parker Elementary and Krystle Hildenbrand of DAEP received gifts.

The foundation will have a drawing to attend two schools per month. At every school, where teachers sign in, there will be drop box for teachers wearing their shirts to put their names in. When the foundation’s staff and attending board members arrive, they will draw a name out of the box at the two chosen schools.

When foundation board members visit the teacher’s room, if they are wearing their foundation T-shirt they will win a prize.

Parents and supporters are asked to join in the initiative. Shirts are $20 and can be purchased by emailing eliza_quigley@gisd.org or terrymuehe@gisd.org or by calling 409-766-5156.
