TEXAS CITY — Engine trouble forced a small plane to land on the hurricane levee near the Texas City Dike on Tuesday afternoon.

According to law enforcement authorities, a flight instructor and student were flying south in the 1976 Cessna 150M after leaving Ellington Field when they experienced engine trouble.

The plane landed safely on the eastern slope of Skyline Drive around 2 p.m. No injuries were reported.

The plane came to a stop just south of Texas City’s Shoal Point Lighthouse monument.

Texas City police and state troopers responded.

The single-engine, fixed wing plane is registered to AV Flight Simulation LLC, an Ellington Field-based flight school, according to Federal Aviation Administration.

Mechanics worked on the plane, trying to diagnose the problem with the engine, before state troopers told them to stop. FAA investigators wanted to examine the plane.
