LEAGUE CITY — The deadline to claim a $12 million lottery jackpot was extended Monday evening, but still no one claimed the prize.
A League City gas station sold a winning ticket in January, but no one stepped up to claim it. The winning numbers were 15, 17, 43, 45, 47 and 50.
The owner of the ticket had 180 days to claim the prize. Monday at 5 p.m. was the deadline, but as the final hour approached, the Texas Lottery Commission announced that claim centers in Austin and Houston would stay open until 6 p.m.
The extra hour did no good, and the prize went unclaimed.
Unclaimed prizes revert to state programs approved by the state Legislature. Since 1995, more than $837 million in unclaimed prize funds have gone back to the state, the commission said. The $12 million will go to the Foundation School Fund, which supports public schools in Texas.
But while someone missed out on the big prize, the store that sold the ticket, South Shore Shell, 3390 FM 518, received a retailer bonus check for $121,385.34.
