HITCHCOCK — A former Houston police officer and NASA security officer was found guilty Monday of manslaughter in the killing of a Clear Lake oral surgeon.

Dennis Roy Redding, 66, was accused of shooting Dr. Mark Holcomb, 61, a longtime friend, in a drunken-rage while visiting the surgeon’s home in the gated Harborwalk subdivision in Hitchcock in June 2012.

Prosecutors argued that Redding deliberately shot Holcomb after the surgeon had walked an intoxicated Reeding back to a guest room of the house.

Redding’s attorneys argued that the shooting was a tragic accident. They also questioned how Hitchcock police handled the investigation.

The weeklong trial was heard in Judge Bret Griffin’s 212th District Court.

Soon after its guilty verdict, the jury started sentencing deliberations, but hadn’t made a decision Tuesday afternoon.

Redding faces two to 20 years in prison.
