BOLIVAR PENINSULA — A Louisiana man was arrested on two counts of intoxication assault, stemming from a June wreck that threw two women from a Jeep on the Bolivar Peninsula, authorities said Wednesday.
Joseph Marcus Dwayne Minix, 37, of Lafayette, La., was released from jail on bonds totaling $50,000 in connection with a June 29 crash in the 3500 block of state Highway 87 in Crystal Beach, said Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo, a spokesman for the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.
Minix is accused of rear-ending a Jeep Wrangler as it slowed down to make a left turn. The crash caused the Jeep to spin, throwing two women from the vehicle, Tuttoilmondo said.
A medical helicopter took Nancy Spears, 42, of League City and Kimberly Lansford, 39, of Baytown to a hospital for treatment of serious yet not life threatening injuries, Tuttoilmondo said.
Minix was also taken to a hospital, where a sample of his blood was drawn to determine whether he was intoxicated. Tuttoilmondo said he didn’t have the results of the blood test.
A grand jury indicted Minix in October, and he surrendered at the county jail on Friday. Tuttoilmondo said.
Court documents didn’t list an attorney for Minix.
