A day after tornadoes touched down in North Texas storms rolled across Galveston County on Wednesday bringing tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings.

No tornadoes were spotted in the county said Josh Lichter of the National Weather Service in League City.

The storms didn’t bring much rain but there was hail reported in the western part of the county.

The weather service reported a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail near Santa Fe yesterday afternoon.

Friendswood spokesman Nick Haby said pea-size hail was spotted but no major damage or flooding was reported.

Santa Fe school district issued a precautionary shelter in place because of the weather about 1:20 p.m. and lifted it about 20 minutes later school district employees said.

By Wednesday afternoon the airport in Galveston received only a fraction of an inch of rain and League City had recorded three quarters of an inch.

But cities in the western part of the county — Santa Fe Hitchcock Friendswood — likely got much more Lichter said.

”The storm really weakened between Bayou Vista and the island” Lichter said.
