More than a day after the polls closed results for two of the county’s elections still were not known Sunday while some races missing mail-in or early voting numbers could not be considered final.

The contested Precinct 3 Hitchcock City Commission race was in limbo Sunday because the votes are likely not going to be counted until today Galveston County Clerk Dwight Sullivan said. Like most entities in the county Hitchcock contracted with the county to manage its city election.

The results of the Bacliff Municipal Utility District’s board election also will not be known until today. Neither entity had preliminary numbers to make public Sunday.

A problem with a mail-in ballot scanner delayed the vote count Saturday and most results were not released until after 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

That delayed the county’s ability to get all of the entities counted.

The vote tally delays also left incomplete the vote counts for the city of Texas City City of Santa Fe and City of Kemah elections although the outcome of those elections was not likely to change once the final mail-in ballots were counted and added to the tabulation.
