Webster Presbyterian Church commemorates Lunar Communion

Posted: Saturday, July 26, 2014 12:30 am

The 45th anniversary Lunar Communion service at Webster Presbyterian Church on Sunday was filled with space themes. The church, once home to astronauts John Glenn and Buzz Aldrin, annually celebrates the traditional bread and cup communion observance while listening to a tape of the only communion ever enjoyed off-world that Aldrin received inside the Lunar Module on the moon’s surface some 45 years ago during the Apollo 11 mission.

The hymns at Webster’s service included, “I sing the mighty power of God,” “God who stretched the spangled heavens” and ended with a postlude, “For the beauty of the Earth.”
