Our annual county tour of sermon teasers will take us from the island, north to Friendswood, with a wide variety of takes on the talks which have been especially prepared for the best-attended Sunday in the Christian calendar, Easter.
We’ll start with one of Galveston’s many historic churches, where the Rev. Susan Kennard, pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church, will remind her flock about that first Easter morning. “When Jesus met the women at the tomb, he told them not to be afraid,” she said. “Here is his word for us as well: Do not be afraid. Do not be afraid to believe that he is alive. Do not be afraid of what he may actually ask you to do, do not be afraid of what people will say, do not be afraid of failure, do not be afraid of anything: He is risen.”
