Texas City’s ACTS Christian Church will have a free food giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon today at 401 10th Ave. N.

Identification and proof of Texas City residency are required.

“When it comes to hunger, we’re the David to its Goliath,” said coordinator Mercy Morgan. “We feed 35 to 50 families every month and we see that people are hurting. We are friendly and family-oriented. People might come in depressed, but no one leaves here grumpy after we pray for them.”

Morgan said that the staples provided have all been donated by members of the church.

For details, call 713-569-9467.

Texas City’s Macedonia Ministries will have a special installation observance at 4 p.m. Sunday at 6218 Siers St. After 23 years of service, the Rev. Donald Jefferson will pass the pastorate on to the Rev. Edgar L. Usher.

“Macedonia Ministries has been a part of the Galveston County-Texas City community since 1964,” Edgar said. “That’s fifty years of ministry, and I am excited about becoming her pastor. This new chapter of life for the ministry will be a journey of faith, family, friends and fun for all. God has given me this journey, and I am ready for the many opportunities of ministry in this community.”

For details, call 832-496-0899.

The Women of the Lamb will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites, 2440 Gulf Freeway in Texas City.

“All women are invited,” said coordinator Rosetta Cooper. “We come together to exercise our God-given talents and gifts that we might not be able to exercise elsewhere. Through poetry, song or the Bible we’ll have the opportunity to grow.”

The ministry has been going on for five years and has produced at least five pastors, evangelists or other Christian leaders, Cooper said.

Update: Did you miss Religion Freedom Day on Thursday? Most did. Each president declares it to fall on Jan. 16 annually. That’s to commemorate the anniversary of the passage, in 1786, of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom, a full year before the U.S. Constitution was ratified.
