TEXAS CITY — The stage is set, the art is up and all that is left is to open the doors to the 14th Texas City Art Festival.

Held at the Doyle Convention Center, the festival features art from residents in the city. This year Desiree Haddock, Ada Martin, Jennifer Massie and Lola Rios, Texas City school district art teachers, will be the featured artists at the festival.

The Texas City Cultural Arts Foundation was chartered in 1997 to promote cultural arts in the city, said Monica James, programs and events coordinator for Texas City’s recreation and tourism department.

It’s from that mission that the art festival grew. The first After Festival was April, 2000, James said.

Local school districts have been a part of the show since it’s beginning, she said.

And in addition to promoting local artists, every year students interested in pursing a degree in the arts win Cultural Arts Foundation Scholarship, she said.
