  • In 1914, ticket agents of railroads from all parts of the country were being entertained in Galveston.
  • In 1964, a group of Galvestonians voted to become a “sister city” to Niigata, Japan.
  • In 1964, representatives of the Galveston Wharves and the Texas City Terminal Railway Co. protested the building of a harbor of refuge for ships in Moses Lake at a U.S. Corps of Engineers hearing in Texas City.
  • In 1989, the five Discovery astronauts returned home after completing a nearly flawless flight with a pinpoint landing in the Mojave Desert.
