  • In 1914, the Texas Good Roads Association began a three-day session in Galveston to discuss all standpoints of good roads, including working convicts on Texas public roads.
  • In 1965, Dick R. Mayfield was named manager of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company’s Galveston office.
  • In 1989, the island City Council agreed on several points concerning cruise ships operating out of the Port of Galveston. The first point of agreement was that there would be no restrictions on the size of vessels that might operate as gambling ships out of the city.
