In 1914, Galveston commissioners approved the advertising of bids for two new trucks for the fire department — a chemical and hose wagon for Fire Station No. 1, estimated to cost $4,500, and an automobile for the chief equipped with extinguishers and small tools, estimated to cost $2,500.
