From the archives of The Daily News for Feb. 12:

• In 1914, Mayor Lewis Fisher and Galveston commissioners were in favor of adding the position of city building inspector in the new budget.

• In 1964, a Bolivar Peninsula citizens group hired an attorney in a bid to secede 18 square miles of land from Galveston ISD to join High Island ISD.

• In 1989, a head-on collision on Interstate 45 in La Marque killed the driver of each car when a Lincoln Continental traveling north in the southbound lane plowed into an Oldsmobile traveling in the center lane.
