From the archives of The Daily News for Jan. 13:

  • In 1914, relief committee meeting met to plan for $7,0OO of additional flood money.
  • In 1964, burglars were busy in Texas City taking more than 54,000 from an automobile dealer.
  • In 1989, Galveston County legislation, ranging from special laws for gambling ships to tax zones, are expected to hit the 71st Texas Legislature. Galveston County retained former state Sen. A R “Babe” Schwartz to lobby for bills in which county government had an interest.
  • In 1989, Consultant Barry M. Goodman recommended that the Galveston rail trolley cars remain idle until his engineer made a report on track on construction.
