GALVESTON — A man robbed a Galveston bank Friday afternoon and fled on foot, police said.

Investigators are working to determine how much money was stolen, although it appears to have been about $7,000.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m., a man walked into the IBC Bank at 200 Seawall Boulevard and slid a note to a bank teller that claimed he was carrying a gun and informed the bank it was being robbed, police Sgt. Joshua Schirard said.

After being given the money, the man fled, headed north on 6th Street, Schirard said.

The robber was described as 6-feet tall, black with a slim build and a thin beard. He was wearing a bucket style camouflaged hat, a black shirt and black pants, police said. He was wearing a pair of dark sunglasses.

Canine units and officers from the University of Texas Medical Branch were helping Galveston police with the investigation and the search for the Friday evening, Schirard said.
