Gators get past short-handed Mustangs in gritty 17-9 win

DICKINSON — The Dickinson Gators emerged still undefeated after their first real dogfight of the season in a 17-9 win over the Friendswood Mustangs on Friday at Sam Vitanza Stadium.

Local tennis teams set for area tournaments

Four locals will be looking to keep their team tennis season in full swing this week.

District 23-5A champion Texas City and third-place Ball High will take to the courts first today, then 24-6A winner Clear Creek and fourth-place Friendswood will follow suit on Thursday in their respective area tournaments.

Henry Winston Stadium will be the site for what could very well be the game of the year in District 24-6A.

Defending district champions Clear Creek (4-2, overall; 3-0, district) travel to Friendswood (5-1, overall; 3-0, district) to take on the district’s new kids on the block in a game that may end up deciding this year’s 24-6A title.
