Find your spookiest attire. Organizers are preparing for the fourth annual Witches’ Ball, a Halloween masquerade party benefiting the Galveston Island Humane Society.

The Witches’ Ball, one of the biggest Halloween costume parties on the island, is Oct. 26 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral Ballroom, 2128 Church St. in downtown Galveston. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the party ends at 1 a.m.

Clyde Wood, along with his wife Kim, own The Witchery in Galveston. They started the event four years ago with hopes of celebrating Halloween while also doing something worthwhile.

The couple say their love for animals made the Galveston Island Humane Society an easy choice as the recipient of proceeds for The Witches’ Ball.

Participants tend to take their costumes seriously, and for good reason. Prizes are given in four categories: “Best Witch,” “Best Couple,” “Most Creative” and “Crowd Favorite.” Cocktail attire is requested of those who prefer not to dress in costume.

“This is the only real Halloween ball in town for adults,” Wood said. “It just gets better every year.”

HVK Studios from Austin transforms the ballroom into a nightclub atmosphere for the event with professional sound and lighting, Clyde Wood said. Look for a free-flowing bar and good food throughout the night, he said.

Ticket prices are $90 per person and include entrance into the event, hors d’oeuvres and full bar, entertainment and door prizes with all proceeds going to the Galveston Humane Society.

“We are very fortunate that The Witches’ Ball has chosen us as the beneficiary,” said Caroline Dorsett-Pate, director of the Galveston Island Humane Society.

Last year, The Witches’ Ball raised $5,000 for the society.

Tickets are sold at The Witchery, 2116 Postoffice St., in Galveston or by phone at 409-515-0669.

The Witches’ Ball commemorative T-shirts will be available for $10 each.

The Galveston Island Witches’ Ball is an adults-only event for people age 21 and older. There are no refunds.
