Popular waterfront hotel closes to perform renovations

Posted: Thursday, December 26, 2013 12:00 am

Room service: The island’s Harbor House Hotel and Marina on Pier 21 is closed temporarily for extensive renovation. The hotel, particularly popular among cruise-ship passengers, is expected to reopen in late February. All 42 guest rooms, including three suites, will be updated with new décor, furniture, lighting and bedding.

Bathrooms also will get a makeover. Harbor House, which opened in 1993, is the island’s only hotel with a harbor view. The property, 100 21st St., is owned by the family of the late George and Cynthia Mitchell as part of Mitchell Historic Properties; it’s managed by Wyndham Hotels and Resorts. The project is under the direction of Lori Mitchell, the granddaughter of George and Cynthia Mitchell. Mitchell Historic Properties has invested more than $125 million in commercial space, loft apartments and three hotels, mostly in The Strand National Historic Landmark District.
