The Rotary Club of Galveston will host its fourth annual Rotary Crawfish Boil from noon to 4 p.m. April 13 at Moody Gardens.

This fun, family fundraising event will again be in the Big White Tent behind the Discovery Pyramid and traditionally signals warmer times and the beginning of the delicious mudbug season on the island.

The Lighthouse Charity Cooking Team will be back with us again — under the direction of Dick and Horacene Daugird, Scott Gordon and their superb crew of volunteers.

And, we’re proud to share with you Scott Gordon’s comment that “the Lighthouse Charity Team is honored to be involved in the Galveston Rotary Crawfish Boil for the fourth year.”

This year for the first time, The Rotary Club of Galveston and the Galveston Chamber of Commerce are partnering to bring many of the young entrepreneurs who participated in last year’s Chamber Lemonade Day Galveston event.

It will be a great opportunity to come out and visit with these talented, young people — who will also be selling their special lemonade from their booths — and learn just how this event has helped them become better students and better citizens in their community.

For fun and lively entertainment, Houston’s award-winning Zydeco Dots will again rock the tent. We’re also bringing back — by popular demand — our Zydeco Dance Contest complete with the crowning of our Zydeco King or Queen and our Crawfish Eating Contest.

All proceeds generated from this event will be distributed through the Rotary Club of Galveston’s Galveston Rotary Foundation to in turn be distributed to Galveston organizations dedicated to improving our local community’s health, education and welfare.

Founded in 1913 and chartered by Rotary International as the 73rd club in the world, our club members subscribe to the motto “Service Above Self,” in addition to supporting this year’s Rotary theme: “Engage Rotary. Change Lives.”

Of course, without the generous support of our sponsors and volunteers, this event would not have been possible. In addition to the Rotary Club of Galveston, a very special thank you is extended to the following major sponsors, that, to date, include Glenn Family Dental, The Galveston County Daily News, Moody Gardens, McQuade Contracting, Del Papa Distributing Co., Lighthouse Charity Team, Galveston Chamber of Commerce, Stewart Title, Ott Monument Works, The Grand 1984 Opera House, Nathan Insurance Agency, Center Point Energy, Joe Tramonte Realty and Carolyn Sunseri.

For just $20 in advance or $25 at the door, you can enjoy a delicious plate of Cajun-seasoned crawfish, potatoes, corn and onions. Also available will be the Lighthouse dogs, red beans and rice and beverages, including ice cold beer, soft drinks, and, of course, ... lemonade.

Door prizes, raffles and good fellowship will round out the day’s activities.

Advance crawfish plate tickets are available at the Galveston Chamber of Commerce office, 2228 Mechanic St., Suite 1, by calling the chamber office at 409-763-5326 or purchasing on line at www.galveston

chamber.com.
