Cold spell sends roseate spoonbills seeking shelter

In the recent cold spells, the birds tried to stay warm as well.

Birds keep warm with help of an accelerated metabolism. But the higher heart rate also brings along a higher stress levels, which could possibly have a negative impact on nesting rates this spring. However, nesting rates are also dependent on water levels, so if we see little flooding within the next three months, all is not lost.
