It’s the time of year when most of us count our blessings as we gather with family and friends. But it’s also important to take the time to tell everyone the ways they disappointed you in the past year. That’s right, it’s almost Festivus, a nondenominational holiday celebrated on Dec. 23.

The TV show “Seinfeld” helped to popularize the holiday. For the uninitiated, here’s some history, according to whatisfestivus.com: The father of Dan O'Keefe, a writer on Seinfeld, discovered the holiday in a book published in 1966. The O'Keefe family celebrated the holiday for years. Then O’Keefe told the story of Festivus to the Seinfeld staff and the rest is history. Today hundreds of thousands celebrate Festivus.

For at least six years, readers of this blog have helped celebrate with the Airing of the Grievances. All you have to do is post in this blog about things that have disappointed or annoyed you. It can be about any topic. But the theme usually is customer service.

The only rule is that we don’t name businesses because I won’t be able to call them all and let them give their side of the story. And we want to be fair, right?

We’ve had fun with this in the past, and I’ll get us started with a few of my grievances.

• First, stores that don’t have enough checkers or courtesy booth employees at key shopping hours. I find it highly annoying that stores have only a few lanes open during the lunch hour. Lunchtime is prime errand-running time. At least it is for me.

• Second, people who refuse to buy The Daily News off the rack, or subscribe, yet call me for a personal run-down of what was in our paper. Also, people who don’t read the paper, but adamantly accuse us of ignoring stories we have written about.

• People who drive in the entrance lane of the freeway or stay in the right turning lane at intersections when they don’t intend to turn right. While I’m on the topic of driving, I have a grievance about the Teichman Road lights on the island. I celebrated my last birthday at that intersection waiting for the light to turn green.

So, get your grumpy on and join me in airing your grievances, even if it’s about newspaper reporters who annoy you.
