Photo Gallery: Kemah Bomb Scare

Shoppers at the Walmart in Kemah got a rude surprise Saturday morning as a police lockdown kept them inside for four hours. Two regional bomb squads were called in to deal with suspected improvised explosive devices that turned out to be a hoax.

The third annual Gulf Shores Invitational Tattoo Expo is underway this weekend at the Galveston Island Convention Center. Tattoo artists and entertainers from across the country are on hand with daily competitions rewarding the best tattoos created live on site. The expo continues through Sunday evening.

Photo Gallery: Galveston Bay Oil Spill

On Saturday afternoon March 22 the 585-foot bulk carrier Summer Wind reported a collision with a barge towed by the motor vessel Miss Susan near the Texas City Dike. As a result of the collision 168,000 gallons of heavy fuel oil leaked into Galveston Bay. Cleanup efforts are on-going.

Extras: Princess Claire's Day

I didn't find out I was being sent to cover the special Princess Day for five-year-old Claire Lankford until this afternoon. I read the assignment and my wife mentioned that there was a lot of talk about it on social media, but I was still only expecting a hundred or so people.

Top 10 Sports Photos of 2013

I take a lot of photographs each year so it can be hard to narrow them down when asked to pick out my best images. But in the tradition of photojournalists everywhere I spent some time coming up with this list. I'm not sure if these are my absolute best, but they are my favorites. I hope y'all enjoy them.

Gallery: Space City Con

Space City Con landed in Galveston this weekend featuring actors from Game of Thrones, Babylon 5 and other television series. Fans of all ages were on hand for the self proclaimed geek and nerd festival.

Gallery: Texans vs. Broncos

The Texans continued their slide Sunday against the Denver Broncos and witnessed history as Peyton Manning set a new NFL single season touchdown passing record. The Broncos clinched the AFC West with their 37-13 victory.

The Houston Texans showed signs of life Sunday but couldn't hold off a comeback by Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. The 34-31 loss was their 10th in a row and gives them the worst record in the NFL.

The Houston Texans continued their downward slide on Sunday, losing to the Oakland Raiders 28-23. Quarterback Matt Schaub returned to action in the third quarter, replacing four-game starter Case Keenum.

Emotional Knights

Emotion in sports can be a good thing or a bad thing. Teams that can't control their emotions risk losing focus. Photographers love covering passionate teams. Win or lose, pictures full of emotion are just better.

Gallery: Fight for 518

The annual "Fight for 518" between Clear Creek and Clear Springs on Friday night was amazingly crazy. The teams combined for 1,210 yards of offense, 125 points and 18 touchdowns. 28 points were put on the board in the first three minutes of the second half. This game is definitely one that students from both schools will never forget.

Gallery: Texans vs. Colts

Despite a strong showing by rookie quarterback Case Keenum, the Texans blew a 21-3 halftime lead. The Colts rallied in the second half for a 27-24 victory on Sunday night.

OUTTAKE: Dickinson vs. Clear Brook football

Dickinson has some of the nicest high school sports facilities in the county. I always enjoy shooting at Sam Vitanza Stadium, the sidelines are spacious and the light is the best around.

The Houston Texans were embarrassed by the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, falling to 2-4 on the season. The crowd at Reliant Stadium actually cheered when quarterback Matt Schaub left the game with an injury in the third quarter.

OUTTAKE: Battle for South Shore

Thursday night's Battle for South Shore between the Clear Falls Knights and the Clear Creek Wildcats started out well but got out of hand in the second quarter. Creek quarterback Jarrett Hildreth threw for 356 yards and four touchdowns giving me lots of opportunities to capture some high flying receivers.

As sports editor John DeLapp wrote in today's paper, there is plenty of blame to go around for the Texans overtime loss to the Seahawks yesterday. Despite that the Texans looked pretty good in the first half, here are some of my photos from the game.

OUTTAKE: Clear Falls vs. Baytown Sterling football

The Clear Falls Knights got off to a slow start in their Thursday night game against Baytown Sterling. Early in the second quarter the Knights attempted to convert a fourth down with a long pass from Alex Assarian to Ke'Shaun Holmes.
