Makeover sneak peak

Ever have that moment when you walk by the mirror and you do a double take? It’s happening to me every time I see my reflection today. I can hardly recognize the face staring back at me.

When the scissors meet the hair

Well it’s finally time for the rubber to hit the road — or in my case, for the scissors to meet the hair.

Who's Who on the Runway
Updated: August 04, 2013 - 10:29 pm

Now that my face has been plastered all over the newspaper and The Daily News website I image plenty of folks will recognize me at Glamour for Grammar fashion shownext week.

But it turns out I’m far from the only recognizable face that will be strutting down the catwalk.

We have about 75 models participating in the fashion show, according to show coordinators. The 75 represent a mix of pros, amateurs and some community leaders who decided to help out.

Here are some of the people you might recognize:

Sgt. Destin Sims

Chief Peter Davis

League City Mayor Tim Paulissen

Dr. Bill Chuoke

Kevin Venable, AMOCO Business Development Manager

David Benson, League City Chief of Staff

Larry Bouley, Owner of Sign Quick

District Attorney Jack Roady

President of the Galveston Chamber of Commerce Gina Spagnola

Deborah Laine, Executive Director of TCISD foundation for the future

Dale Taylor, professor at Galveston College

Some of them have been featured on the Glamour for Grammar Facebook page so far and there will be more to come. There will also be plenty of local kids and people from the county. There is probably a pretty good chance you’ll know someone making there way down the red carped.

Make sure to get your tickets to cheer on some of your hometown folks.

It's a reggae two step weekend

I wonder if there are any dreadlocked cowboys out there because if so this is their weekend to be in Galveston County. You've got two stepping country bands at the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo on Friday and Saturday and, on the island, the two day JA-GA Reggae Festival runs Saturday and Sunday.

Lessons learned at SXSW
Updated: March 21, 2013 - 11:53 pm

So what did I learn at this year's South by Southwest? One is that boots are not the best footwear for hiking up and down Austin sidewalks. But more importantly is that there are so many good bands and so much good music being made it is a wonder I get any work done and I don’t just spend every day going to shows.

Mardi Gras has come and gone and while most folks, including yours truly, could use some time to recover. But as the great Sam Elliot said in Road House, "I'll get all the sleep I need when I'm dead."

First look at Mardi Gras music
Updated: January 04, 2013 - 9:08 am

We are a month away from the start of Mardi Gras in Galveston. While our party may not be as wild as the one in New Orleans (and I don’t think we could ever match that craziness), Mardi Gras in Galveston is a pretty good time.
