WHAT: Second annual Mystery Evening: Mayhem at the Mardi Gras

WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday

WHERE: Mae S. Bruce Library, 13302 Sixth St., in Santa Fe

COST: $20 per person

WHAT: George P. Mitchell Mardi Gras Parade

WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday

WHERE: Downtown Galveston

INFO: The parade will honor George Black and posthumously Donald Schattel Sr., and will feature the Budweiser Clydesdales, Ball High School Marching Band and festive floats through the Historic Strand District. Visit www.mardigrasgalveston.com.

WHAT: 58th annual Grand Treasure Ball and Pageant

WHEN: 7:30 p.m. Friday

WHERE: Moody Gardens Convention Center, 7 Hope Blvd., in Galveston

WHAT: Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade

WHEN: 8 p.m. Friday

WHERE: Downtown Galveston

INFO: The fourth annual event is free for families, friends, corporate groups, organizations and individuals. This year, the inaugural Official Umbrella Decorating Contest of Mardi Gras! Galveston also will take place. You can submit an original decorated umbrella to be voted on by the public via the Mardi Gras Galveston Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade Facebook Page. The top 10 umbrellas will be showcased at the Official Mardi Gras! Galveston Poster & Umbrella Unveiling and the winning umbrella will lead the Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade Processional. WHERE: The parade will begin at 5700 Seawall Blvd. and end on The Strand in Galveston

INFO: The parade will feature 12 lighted floats, marching bands, as well as many other entries. Don’t miss this year as King Gambrinus XXV and HRH the Queen celebrate their Silver Anniversary.

INFO: The family event, which shows support for the children at Shriners Hospitals for Children and The Sunshine Kids, will begin at 21st and Strand streets, and continues around the Historic Strand District, features walking, running or strolling for all ages. Proceeds will go to support the Sunshine Kids and Shriners Hospitals for Children.

WHAT: Eighth annual Krewe Babalu All-Krewe Parade

WHEN: 8 p.m. Feb. 28

WHERE: Downtown Galveston

INFO: The parade will begin at 25th Street and Mechanics Row. It will then continue down Mechanics to 21st Street, go left on 21st to The Strand and then go left on The Strand back to 25th Street. This year the Dynamo Girls from Houston will be the Honorary Grand Marshalls of this year’s parade and will be available to sign calendars after the parade at their balcony party.

INFO: The Battle of the Bands will be at 9 a.m. at 27th Street and Avenue M. There will be a free “Yard Party” immediately after the parade at Jack Johnson Park, 26th Street and Avenue M.
