With the new year arriving, you will need to start thinking about your tax return. D. Michael Bartholomew a certified public accountant in Texas City, is gearing up for that. Bartholomew prepares tax returns for individuals and all sizes and types of business. With over 30 years of experience preparing tax returns, no return is too big or too small for his office.

Bartholomew says he has seen an increase in the IRS cracking down on preparers who file fraudulent returns creating large refunds for the taxpayer and huge fees for the preparer. Taxpayers should be weary when their refund is considerably more than they thought it should be, or if the preparer refuses to sign the return. Chances are, something is wrong and it could cost you a lot of money down the line, he says. If the IRS audits a taxpayer’s return and finds significant undocumented deductions, they typically with review the last three years of returns filed by the taxpayer. Bartholomew says he has seen cases where taxpayers owed in excess of $100,000 after an IRS audit because the preparer claimed fraudulent deductions and in some cases just did not know what they were doing.

Bartholomew takes an interactive approach to preparing his clients’ tax returns. For most taxpayers, If they make an appointment, he can go through all of their information and finish their return while they are there. If he is not able to finish the return, they leave knowing what information is lacking and where they stand with their taxes. For those clients that are not in a rush, they are welcome to drop off their information and wait for him to call them regarding any questions he has.

In addition to preparing tax returns, Bartholomew’s office is open year round to answer your questions.

“I stand behind the returns my office prepares,” he says. “I represent my clients before the IRS free of charge for any return prepared by my office if it comes under question by the IRS.”

This service is also provided on a fee basis for returns prepared by others. In addition to tax services, his office also provides accounting, payroll and consulting services to businesses of all sizes. His office is located at 3212 13th Ave, N. in Texas City. You can stop by for a visit, or give him a call at (409) 948-1681.
