Who we serve

Libbie’s Place Senior Day Program serves adults age 55 and older who are experiencing decreased physical functioning, memory loss, depression or social isolation.

The overall structure of Libbie’s Place is innovative and adaptable, allowing each individual’s needs to be met. It also allows all seniors to take part in activities without any stress or fear of not being able to complete an activity, giving each person a sense of accomplishment and boosting their self-esteem.

For many of our participants, the positive changes are easy to see: they become more alert, talk more, eat better and are more physically active, leading to a better night’s sleep.

Proud to serve veterans

Libbie’s Place is proud to serve older veterans at our senior adult day program. Through our contract with the Veterans Administration (VA), local veterans age 55 and over, who receive medical care through the VA, may qualify to attend Libbie’s Place as part of their VA benefits. This service includes bus transportation to and from our facility for residents on the mainland and in Galveston.

Libbie’s staff

Our professionally trained staff are prepared to meet the individual needs of our participants. Our certified Activity Director plans and leads our daily programs designed to stimulate the mind and body and nurture the spirit. Care Associates assist people with activities and personal care while our full-time Nurse and RN Consultants help with medications, health education and medical care as needed.

Two bus drivers safely transport our seniors each day. Our Executive Director and Office Manager/Volunteer Coordinator keep our office running smoothly and offer application information and tours of the facility.

We are also excited to announce the addition of a contract Social Worker to better meet the needs of our seniors, especially our veterans.

We support family caregivers

Asking for help is the first step to meeting the challenge of caring for a senior family member.

Libbie’s Place works closely with local doctors and other health care professionals to coordinate quality care for our senior participants. Students from UTMB School of Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and medical students engage with our program to better prepare them for caring for their older patients.

A monthly community caregiver group is provided the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Moody Methodist Church in Room 120. Libbie’s Place offers a financial assistance program based on a sliding scale for qualified applicants. Our mission is to serve all seniors and their families in need of our senior adult day care services.

Libbie’s Place is a nonprofit community outreach mission of Moody Methodist Church, a United Way of Galveston agency and SECC campaign participant. Individuals and groups can support our senior participants through financial donations or volunteering.

Proceeds directly support operations at Libbie’s Place. Engraved bricks also can be purchased in honor or memory of a special person in your life to be placed in our garden. These funds support our financial assistance program.

Libbie’s Place is located at 5402 Ave. U in Galveston, on the Moody Methodist Church campus. Mailing address is 2803 53rd Street, Galveston, 77551. Hours of operation are from 7:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. Libbie’s Place is 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, licensed by the Texas Dept. of Aging and Disability Services.
