As owner of Texas IT Services in League City, Rick Grace’s goal is to provide reliable, comprehensive technical services to the Galveston and Houston areas.
With Texas IT Services, Rick has assembled a team of the area’s best and brightest to create a solid foundation and offer highly skilled and high-integrity services to the area. The services they offer draw largely on Rick’s long history in the business, which has included extensive experience in data communications and networking; VoIP technologies; server and storage technologies; firewalls and security; cabling; and desktop support.
Rick’s diverse background in the IT world started in 1984, when he completed a General Business degree and Computer Science minor at Sam Houston State University. While the business degree continues to be valuable, his first foray into the job market was with computers. Straight out of college, Rick worked at CompuLand, a computer retail store near Clear Lake and the first retail computer store in the Houston area. He worked there, selling and maintaining PCs, until February 1986.
With that experience under his belt, Rick took a position as a contractor at NASA Data Processing System Division, first as a PC software support specialist and later becoming a network administrator. This task entailed supporting the Xerox 6000 Star system, which parts of Johnson Space Center used as their secretarial work station. After two years there, he moved into the Network Engineering group, where he got his first exposure to Cisco routers and other Local Area Network devices.
After leaving NASA in 1994, Rick ventured into the corporate world with various network engineering roles at BP, eventually running their offshore Gulf of Mexico IT support group after their merger with Amoco.
Twelve years later, he joined the network team at Calpine and helped deploy network upgrades and Voice over IP (VoIP) services to 63 power plant sites across the United States. He was responsible for deploying voice, data and video communications, WAN upgrades and overseeing cabling plant installs and upgrades.
In 2010, he went to work for Baker Hughes, supporting network rollouts at new production facility sites across the country. These included large wireless deployments, oversight of several Windows server installations at each site, and voice and data support. He also became very involved in data security, working on enterprise-class firewalls.
When his contract ended with Baker Hughes in 2012, Rick seized an opportunity to use the vast knowledge he had collected over the years to start providing personalized IT services to the Galveston and Houston areas through Texas IT Services.
