Heaven Sent Day Care is not only a day care. In the summer, it’s a children’s retreat and outdoor oasis where children can explore, swim and enjoy the weather. And on days when the children are inside, Heaven Sent Day Care becomes a cozy place to learn, laugh and make friends. Nestled on five country acres in Santa Fe, Heaven Sent Day Care is a special place for children to learn, grow and play — and has been for two decades now.

Owned and operated by Tom and Betty Postell, who are referred to affectionately as “Papa” and “Nanny” by the children, Heaven Sent Day care has been providing their services to the children of Galveston County for over 20 years now, and hope to continue for another 20. From their preschool program to their safety classes and fun activities, Heaven Sent is a balanced day care that combines child care, learning and fun for the children! Whether it’s lounging by the pool, having a food fight, or learning something new, Heaven Sent makes sure that everyone is having fun!

When the weather is nice and the sun is shining, the children enjoy time outdoors in the pool, playing sports and games, as well activities like crafts such as tye dying shirts.

In the winter, or when it is rainy or too cold to go outside, children can find plenty to do in the day care’s 1,200 square-foot game room, which features three different sizes of pool tables, ping pong tables and other entertainment activities. Arts and craft projects  —  and occasionally woodworking —  can also keep little hands busy.

During the school year, Betty focuses the day’s activities around education. For instance, pre-kindergarteners can learn how to write the ABCs while other grades attend art, science and music classes. All children — from infants to young teens — are encouraged to learn at Heaven Sent Day Care.

Heaven Sent Day Care doesn’t just provide a fun, learning environment, they also teach every child to respect others, the country, and about Jesus Christ. To help instill these values, the children say the Pledge of Allegiance every day, and a prayer before every meal.

Every day before lunch, the prayer is said by Heaven Sent’s beloved cook, Dorthy Logan. Mrs. Logan has been a cherished part of Heaven Sent for the past 13 years, and Tom and Betty Postell appreciate all of her hard work over these years.

Tom and Betty have lived in Santa Fe since 1981. They raised five boys, and all of their family but two of their eight grandchildren still reside in the area. They want to thank all the parents who have shared their own children with Heaven Sent Day Care over the years, and hope they continue for many years to come.

Heaven Sent Day Care continues to remain committed to caring for children in the Galveston area.

“The kids really are a part of our family,” Betty said.
