The Mediterranean Chef, The Strand’s oldest restaurant with continuous ownership, has been serving great food at great prices for more than 24 years. With a spacious, updated dining area and a menu filled with authentic, delicious cuisine from the “cradle of civilization,” the restaurant combines the best of the new and the old for Galveston residents and visitors.

A Great Start To Any Meal

To start your meal experience, the Mediterranean Chef offers 13 different appetizers. Among the simplest and tastiest of these is Hummus, made from puréed chick peas, thin oil, garlic and lemon juice, served with pita bread. Other delectable treats on the appetizer menu are tabouli and calamari.

Affordable, Delicious Entrees

For newcomers to the world of Mediterranean cuisine, the unfamiliar item names on menu may be intimidating. Don’t let that stop you from enjoying! The menu is complete with helpful explanations for each entree, and servers are always happy to answer any questions.

Our affordable entrees make it easy to enjoy a taste of the Eastern Atlantic on any budget. Among lunch favorites is the Gyros Platter, featuring rotisserie-cooked, marinated lamb and beef, served with Greek salad over rice or grilled potatoes.

The Mediterranean offers six types of kabobs, from grilled tenderloin to vegetarian, accompanied by Greek salad, rice and bread.

If you’re stopping in for dinner, the range of delicious options include Moussaka — baked layers of potatoes and ground beef, blended with wine and spices, covered with eggplant and topped with Béchamael sauce, served with Greek salad.

The Chicken Tawook and Beef Tawook will leave your taste buds dancing with delight.

For vegetarian diners, the options are just as delectable. Spanakopita (layers of fillo dough stuffed with cooked spinach and feta cheese) or veggie lasagna (baked layers of eggplant, stuffed with ricotta and feta, topped with tomato sauce and served with Greek salad) will provide a hearty, delicious and satisfying meal for vegetarians and meat-lovers alike.

Beverages To Enjoy

For wine lovers, the Mediterranean offers 30 different varieties, including selections from California, Greece, France, owner Mazen Zeidan’s native Lebanon, Turkey and Spain. Non-wine drinkers will find an equally large beer selection, with 30 different choices.

During happy hour, Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., wine and beer specials are offered. Each day features a different drink special.

Something for Everyone

The Mediterranean offers a wide range of choices on the menu, and even children will find something they enjoy. For diners seeking American favorites, they offer hamburgers, grilled chicken sandwiches and rib eye steaks. On the children’s menu, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers and French fries are available.

And don’t forget to leave room for dessert! The Mediterranean serves baklava, Mediterranean lime pie and tiramisu.

They also offer convenient takeout boxed lunches and catering.

Winner of the Galveston County Daily News’ best Mediterranean/Greek food award, the Mediterranean Chef is a great place to enjoy a fresh, authentic Mediterranean meal. Stop by today and enjoy their fun, festive atmosphere and delicious menu options for lunch, dinner, or drinks after work.
